Let Me Upgrade

One man's trash-another man's treasure.
Our friends recently upgraded to a movie theater sized tv screen. It's awesome. What is also awesome, is the fact that they needed to get rid of their old tv, to make room for their new one. They were kind enough to sell it to us. See, our tv is about 19 inches, and we've had it since we were married. It's tiny (which kind of worked when we lived in small apartments, but now I practically need binoculars because our couch is so far away...) and crappy, and the remote doesn't work anymore. Yes, we have been having to get up and change the channel or turn up the volume...and I say I never exercise. Their tv is a whole 8 inches bigger than our other one, and has a working remote. Needless to say, we are pretty much in heaven. Probably just as happy with our new "upgrade" as they are with theirs. This will hold us off from making a gigantic tv purchase for a long time. We had so much fun last night, watching a movie (Martian Child...so good) and turning the volume up and down while we sat on our comfy couch.

One man's trash-another man's treasure.
There has been one other time in my life this saying presented itself. Steve and I were talking one day before we were married I think, about how I dated his roommate before him. Steve was all ready to make his move the second we broke up. "One man's trash-another man's treasure." That's what he told me. He has always had a way with words. At first I was ticked to be thought of as trash, but it was kinda nice to hear the treasure part I guess. I'm so glad I upgraded to the better roommate!

When I read the title of your blog I thought it was about Beyonce.

And just because I "swooped" in doesn't mean I kissed you first...because that is where you did your swooping.

Whatever.

You just cracked me up! I probably had the same 9 inch tv when we were first married. I had to get real close to it. Anyway, loved your post... And, I loved Martian Child! What did you think of it?

Such a beautiful picture! Post more. Dan's dad called me a "diamond in the rough." To me that isn't necessarily a compliment but Dan insisted that it was. I still don't buy it.

Happy TV watching! Lost is going to be really intense now.

You were called trash/treasure - I was called a Tundra truck. Our hubbies are so romantic. I love it. Glad that TV is working out for ya (wipe a tear) it has been a good friend.

Oh, and I totally want to see Martian child. Glad to hear it was good. So, does this mean you didn't watch American Idol last night? Well, I won't erase it is you need to come over.

I love the comparisons! I love the picture. Now Easton can watch his Spanish channels on a bigger screen!

Congrats on the new TV! You two look sooo young in that picture, not that you look old now...Love ya

The thing that amazed me about your blog is how your wedding photo was on your page right next to a current pic of you two -and you haven't changed much at all! Your hair is a little longer but you two still look so happy and in love. Awwwww

Bringhursts said...

I can't believe you guys haven't ever had a remote. I'm still in shock over that one!

I loved the wedding pic! I don't think you've changed much at all Emily but Steve looks a little older. That's exactly how it is with all of our wedding photos. Danny looks like a kid in our pics and I look pretty much the same (well, I look a little more tired now--for good reason)! Isn't that exactly how it should be though? :o) We deserve to look as young as possible for as long as possible!

I'm so glad to hear you liked Martian Child, I have been meaning to watch it, now I will for sure.

Now I see what the wedding photo was for! It wasn't that you were trash, it was just meant to be.
Proof that some of the trials we have to deal with in this hard life are for a reason. A very good reason in this case.

Oh, and Congrats on the new TV!

YEAH FOR EMILY AND STEVE AND A NEW TV! That is WAY exciting news! I do have one question: Why didn't you go buy a universal remote for your old TV?

That wedding picture is so dang cute! I've never seen that before!

Ok so we need to get together next week. It's spring break so Joc is out of school all week!

You're my treasure Emily.

And yes that was supposed to sound really corny.

That is a cute picture. And sweet new TV! My whole house is made up of "treasures."

Now I have the "to the left, to the left" song in my head. I don't know if that's the song Steve was referring to, but that's the one I'm now singing. Thanks a lot!

Oh, and my thoughts about your little "Michael" prediction. That was my first thought too, which actually makes me think it will be someone else. I mean, when has one of our 'first thoughts' actually been right? They are tricky these Lost guys. Then I was thinking, maybe its somebody that we think is actually dead. Like Charlie! We never did actually see him get buried. Yes normally people who explode leave left for a formal burial, but then I realized that although WE had to wait like 3 years for the new season to start, it's actually only been a couple of days for them, so no, probably not enough time for Charlie become the spy, were he not dead. And also Hurley thinks he's dead in the flash forward, so sadly my favorite character is most likely not the spy. So that brings us back to Michael, or perhaps Locke's Dad, or did he get killed? And why is he on the island again? I'm so confused. Oh, and I have a HUGE spoiler for you if you're interested but I don't want to ruin it for your other blogging friends, who hopefully have given up on reading this long comment and have gone and gotten a snack or something. But it's about Jacob.

Congrats on the new TV. Watch out that remote is addicting. Don't fight over who gets to run the thing.

Love the wedding picture. You guys are so cute. Definetly the right pair picked each other.

You guys are so cute and have a handsome son. What more could treasures or trash ask for?

Love ya

Liz: There's a direct tv commercial where Beyonce sings a song about upgrading..."let me let me upgrade ya..." I sing it all the time. But, To The Left is good too (or whatever it's called). Can't go wrong with a little Beyonce!

Thanks Lindsay...you're my treasure too.

And Anjie...we had a remote, it just sucked REALLY BAD! I now have the strongest right thumb in the world because I had to push down as hard as possible for any of the buttons to work.

Ilene...I'm with you! Just because one of the two nouns is positive, doesn't make the phrase a compliment!

Jill said...

Yea! A bigger TV! I'm very excited for you guys. I think you and Steve were meant to be too. But Steve's wording of the sentiment is a little unfortunate. Not very romantic, Steve! But I believe the right roommate won out.

Danielle said...

so funny. Clay and I are exactly the same way with furniture and other hand me downs. we love them! I love that wedding picture!

You know what I always say? You gotta celebrate the small victories, because later it might turn out to be a big accomplishment and you'll be sad you didn't celebrate. I'm happy about the new TV! And that you upgraded to the better roommate because now you get to be my cousin!

I will leave a comment to add to the other 25!! You probably won't even read it, Mrs. Popular!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the wedding picture. You look so dang cute!!! And I think you are just a "treasure" in every sense of the word and Steve is a lucky guy! Oh, and Chris and I used to have a very small TV too, and Chris was going blind so we had to upgrade cause of that. I would have just settled for glasses or contacts, but NO, we had to get a BIG SCREEN!!! And he still can't see the thing!!

AWWWWW I can't believe I had never seen your wedding pics! I remember being at your reception...you were such a beautiful bride! Congrats on the TV. Jeff's lastest want is a plasma...I am content with whatever, but I don't think I would complain if it actually happened :)

oooo you might be right about Michael being the spy! I was thinking that too! Can't wait to see it!

I feel like my comment won't mean anything now because you already have 35 of them. But I thought I would try anyway!

Love that you got a tv upgrade. The tv we had for the first 4 years we were married was a tv my parents bought when I was born. It finally died and we got another hand me down from my parents, but still a much nicer tv. I have so been wanting to see Martian Child, that is going to be my next movie rental!

I love that wedding pic. Wow, doesnt that seem like forever ago! I am so glad that I got to be at your wedding.

Maybe Steve was really talking about the other guy, that he was trash and that he will someday be somebody else's treasure! You two are the cutest!

Megan and Greg said...

Wow you guys are so cute in that picture! You might not even read this because I am commenting so late. I can't believe Steve referred to you as TRASH!!!Oh men. They just really are missing something in their brains sometimes. Trying to say something good and it really isn't! I love the tv blurb. As pathetic as it is, when you mentioned having to get up to change the channel I just thought, "Oh terrible! I would never change the channel!" Wow. I'm truly glad you have a working remote and a big tv.
