Fraidy Cat

Is that mean for me to say about my kid? Seriously though, he's kind of a wuss. We have such a hard time at the park because rarely will he climb the stairs by himself, or go down the slide without me forcing him with him screaming and crying (yes, I'm that mean). He likes the swing, but that's not much fun for me because my arm gets tired. I thought by now he would be used to the park...we've been going 3 times a week at least for the past 8 months! Today we went to a really awesome park with super cool play equipment and a splash park, and he whined most of the time we were there and barely played on anything. BORING. I'm glad it's swimming time because at least he likes that. I don't want him to be scared of things, I want him to be curious and adventurous! I hope he'll grow out of it and learn to love the park...but for now it's driving me CRAZY!!!

Here's a pic of him on the carousel. He was crying and holding onto me for dear life.
And here's the pool. I guess he prefers water over giant plastic horses that go up and down and 'round and 'round. Can't say I blame him on that one.

He looks so cute swimming! Ben is still iffy at the park, too. He can finally climb up to the slide and go down by himself but he doesn't really care to. He mostly loves following around other adults and snooping in their bags and strollers. I might have a klepto on my hands. Which is way worse than a fraidy cat! Count yourself lucky!!

Ha! It looks like I may be one of the 1st to comment on this post!! I can't believe after all of those trips to the park that he still hasn't warmed up to it! I envy that you have the time and the weather to go so frequently! Ethan seemed to enjoy the park when we went, even though he's still not quite walking completely on his own. Our first ride on the carousel he seemed to enjoy, but was a little 'iffy'. The next two rides (2 weeks later) he clung to me for dear life - granted that was on the old, rickety carousel at Roaring Rapids - it's quite jerky!
I'm sure he'll gain a more adventurous spirit soon!! :)

He's a cutie! I sometimes wish Alexis was more afraid of things because she just runs off and does absolutely anything, I'm surprised she's had no broken bones or stitches yet!

He loved the water park today if you held him over it. I think he just wants to do everything with you! He wants you to share the experience with him. I think you should wear your swimming suit to the park next time and he'll follow you through the water and have a blast!!

I wanted to hear an update of your cereal situation. I've actually heard that kids that get scared are smarter than kids that don't.(at this toddler age) because they have a grasp on cause and effect. They have a better understanding that something bad might happen. My ped. says it's a huge milestone and not being afraid of anything (at age 2) could be a sign of a disability. So here's a genius. Nuff said.

So I think you're sense of humor is the best. (I'm basing this off your blog and the comments you leave on mine.) I think we should hang out more.. How does everyday sound?

Okay, here's what I think but I'm just the very partial grandma.

He's young for all that big boy stuff at the park, let him build his confidence a little at a time. I'm sure it looks pretty overwhelming to him right now. He should come to Grandma's and practice on the little slide with no pressure. Those pictures are so cute!

i have the opposite problem...... Jackson has to climb on/up absolutely everything right now, and he has to do it by himself-but he is not good enough to do it by himself so it usually ends with me carrying him kicking and screaming back to the car. i swear if i just let him do whatever he wanted he would brake every bone in his body. i am jealous that it is swimming weather already for you guys! It looks like this year we are going straight from winter to fall here..... spring in summer are nowhere to be found :(

Look on the bright side...you don't have to battle him to leave the park at the end. And could he be any cuter in his floaties? Probably not.

I agree with Easton, water is much more fun than going round and round, up and down on a merry-go-round. He sure is a handsome kid.

Love ya

Hmm...at least he'll wear slippers. Cade KICKS and SCREAMS if I try putting those things on his feet so I guess we all have wussy kids in same way or the other!

LOVE the pool picture. I'm sooooo jealous!!!

and by the way, slippers to us are what most people call "flip flops".

Oh poor little guy! He is so stinkin cute. I haven't really tried Drew out at the park yet but he is TERRIFIED of the vacuum. It is so sad! As soon as I turn it on he starts freaking out and shaking.

Those pics are hilarious! I love it! I need to get Maddie into swim lessons again...bathtime is boring for us when she isn't...I think she forgets that she likes the water!

You know Eli is the exact same way which is the total opposite of Shailey and Isaac who are both daredevils. For the longest time Eli would cry everytime we went on Pirates of the Caribbean and now it's his favorite ride at Disneyland. I think Easton will eventually outgrow his "scaredy-cat" ways. At least, that's what I continue to hope with Eli.

I'm with you girl. Joseph is the same way. Well, actually opposite. He hates swinging and swimming, but loves the playground and slides. I think he's slowly getting better and he's starting to get old enough to get talked into trying things. It drives me crazy too!
