What A Difference A Day Makes

Yesterday, my husband took the day off of work. This may not seem like a big deal, but it's the first day he has taken off in almost a year. I hadn't been feeling very well, and got no sleep the night before (a friend from high school was visiting and we stayed up late chatting and then got up at 4 to go to the airport). I woke up at 8 to Easton talking in his high chair, and wondering who on earth was feeding my kid breakfast. Then I noticed Steve's wallet and keys still on the nightstand. I go downstairs thinking I'll find him all dressed up and ready to go, assuming he was just going to go to work late...but nope, still in his pjs. Then he informed me he was taking the day off. I was in shock. This is the conversation that followed:

Me: Did you take the day off knowing that I didn't feel well and that I'd be really tired today?
Him: Yes
Me: So, you didn't stay home because you just wanted a break from work, to benefit you, but to help me?
Him: Yes.
Me: Like, you were being thoughtful?
Him: Yes, well, I figured we could both take a nap today.
Me: So really this benefits both of us? I can live with that...you're the best!

I don't want to give the impression that Steve isn't thoughtful on a regular basis, because he is. But this just seemed like a really big deal to me. He doesn't take days off. He took care of us, helped me get a few things done and made dinner. It was seriously a dream come true, and a much needed day for me.

I'm glad you guys had such a nice day. Steve is so nice- can he teach Chris how to be thoughtful? Well, I don't thinik he can, I've tried and it doesn't work. I hope you start feeling better soon! Miss you and so does Na Na! Give Easton hugs from us!

How lucky! John isn't much for taking time off work either. I'm lucky if he'll come home for an extended lunch (two hours instead of one) if I'm not feeling well. But a whole day? That must have been heaven!

And I saw you're reading the Host. Are you loving it with all your heart? Did you make it through the frist 100 pages ok? Those were tough for me, it dragged a little.

Way to go, Steve-O! That does sound like heaven. Maybe I will get lucky and Brian will take a day or two off when I have a baby. Cross your fingers!

He made dinner?

I think you should feel sick tomorrow too.

Way to go Steve. Major points for that one little phone call. I'm sure you will reap all kinds of benefits...

What a nice guy! Lani you taught him well! Glad you were able to have a day together other than a weekend. Kudos to both of you, you are both very caring and kind, Easton is a pretty lucky kid.

Love ya all

Yeah for Steve! Sorry you're not feeling well. That stinks, I should know. My hubby did come home early and work from home when I was sick. I guess that was good, but I told him to do it. I think it's pretty rare for the male species to be thoughtful. So when they are it is a big deal!

That does sound like a dream come true! A couple of Saturdays ago, I was getting up to Justin around 7 and Darren pushed me back down and got up with the boys. I woke up to bacon and eggs cooking an hour and a half later! Gotta love those thoughtful moments. Glad you're getting them cause you deserve it!

How nice! Unexpected days like that are almost always the best. It just seems so much more relaxing when it's an unplanned day off as opposed to the weekend. Glad you had a day together!

That conversation was hilarious! I don't know. I can just envision the whole thing. Very sweet. I'm glad you got a break. I'm glad he got a day off too. I didn't realize until this post you guys left after he graduated- A YEAR AGO!!! I swear you just moved there 3 months ago. I'm so thrown right now.

No, the other Darren I sleep with. Yes! Your brother Darren. He actually has thoughtful moments! You just have to enjoy them when they happen because they are sometimes few and far between. He takes good care of me, even though he likes to sound like a brat in public.
