The Young & All My General Hospital Days of Our Passions

So yesterday I found myself with nothing to do right around 1:30. Easton and Claire were asleep, and surprisingly my house was clean and the laundry was mostly done. Our internet wasn't working (big shocker), and usually when I try to read at that time in the afternoon I just want to fall asleep...which seems like it would be nice, but I suck at taking naps and I usually just feel worse when I wake up. Plus the odds of getting woken up by a dog or a baby are very, very good.

I digress.

Back to 1:30 at my house. I never turn on the tv until 3:00 when Ellen comes on, but I just thought I'd try and see what was on. Nothing but soaps of course, so I decided to check them out. I have always been a hater of soap operas, and I'm happy to say that I still am. I don't even know which ones I was watching, but I just could not stop laughing. I'm sorry, I know there are hard core fans out there, but I just don't really get it. And I swear I saw the same guy on at least 3 different shows. And does anyone else have to turn on their tv as loud as it goes to hear what they are saying? What's with the whispering? Who talks like that?! Finally I changed the channel to Maury, who was talking about teenage girls who sleep around and beat people up.
Hmmm, I guess that counts as a soap opera too. Maybe I need to find some new daytime hobbies.

I used to be the biggest Days fan in junior high. My friends mom would tape it during the school year and we'd watch it at night. Yeah, we were freaks. I'm happy to say they don't interest me anymore. Oh, but they did. All that intense whispering and makeup. The drama and suspense. I gotta say, it really appealed to me at 13.

Yeah I was a Days fan in Jr. High too. Patch and Kayla, Bo and Hope? It was good stuff. Oh and remember when Marlena got possessed?

But yeah now I just laugh and laugh whenever I see them as well. My favorite is when they straight up talk to themselves. It's hilarious!

The crazy thing is that you can go YEARS without watching a soap and then turn it on and be right back into the story; like you never stopped.

I used to watch a bit but then Marlena got possessed and I realized I was watching a show where NOTHING happened. There is no plot, no goal, no happy conclusions. No wonder they talk to themselves.

Hilarious! Did I ever tell you that one day I came home from Carden School and called the TV station almost screaming because they had moved Days of Our Lives, to 3:00pm instead of 1:00pm, which was during nap time? I couldn't watch it any more because my children would be home from school and expect their mom to be listening to them not watching smut. That was the end of my soap opra days, thank goodness. Seriously I could turn it on today and know what is going on. But they don't wear any clothes any more so I won't be doing that.

My mom got me hooked on Days when I was young. But I have LONG grown out of that phase. It IS so ridiculous!!!

When I first had Emery I watched a lot of daytime tv and boy is it funny. I hate soaps but they are hilarious at the same time. Seriously...the drama and the crazy story lines. Good times.

OK, I guess I'm the only one that still like DAYS!!! I would schedule all my classes around it in college, not junior high! I guess that shows you my maturity level! I love how it lets me escape from my life and wonder what's going to happen next with all these couples and love triangles! I love your mom's comment- so funny! I love how she said they don't wear clothes anymore!

I am so disappointed in you Emily! You know General Hospital is the best :) I acutally have almost quit watching it. I would rather sleep and they are pretty stupid. But like you said when you have 3 channels it's either that or Maury :)

I've gotta say, I've never been a fan of the daytime soaps - I just can't get into them, which is probably a good thing. I figure I watch enough of the 'night-time soaps' (i.e. Grey's!) when Ethan is in bed, I don't need to fill our DVR with the daytime stuff too!!

I'm still laughing about the title of your post. I sometimes watch Passions and Days. By sometimes I mean like twice a year. Funny how I can not watch them for six months and not miss a thing.

Too funny! Glad you're still a hater, I was getting worried there for a minute!

p.s. just put on one of my Shade medium baby tee shirts. NOT good! Send what you can SOON!!!!

your title was just too clever hahaha! you're so smart! anyway, i had to laugh at this because I TOTALLY agree. Thank goodness soaps were never watched at our house because they are SO DUMB!!! I swear, High School Musical is less cheesy than those soaps. and they all have the same plot... you slept with my sister and I'm having your baby and My grandma robbed your cousin last night.

PALEASE!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you, nothing but trash. It was funny, at the bank I worked at even the guys were into the soaps. It was so sad.

1:30 is a horrid time to want to watch TV. I'm with you. They're laughably ridiculous! Way to stay unhooked. I love to think about your mom yelling at the TV station over the phone about her soap opera, though! My mom is a closet General Hospital fan.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I go thru this when I come home for lunch and greg isn't there. By the way, what dates exactly are you coming home? I'm going out of town a bit in JUly. Let me know!!!!

Soaps really are hilarious. The most rediculous things happen on them...like people will "die" over and over and they always come back to life. Anyway, I am so glad that we have DISH so I can be totally obsessed with every single decorating show on HGTV that there is....hmmm...maybe that's not too good either. :o)
