The Waiting Game

For those of you who have forgotten how to play this game, let me refresh your memory. You invest some of your time, effort, emotions, love, talent, work, etc...any or all of the above, into something, and sit and wait to hear back from some higher authority to tell you how it will all turn out. Steve and I LOVE to play this game. That's a lie, we don't love it, but we still seem to play it all the time.

The first time we ever played was when we were waiting to hear back from law schools, to see where we'd be spending 3 years of our lives going into debt. That wait ended up being worth it, we loved Eugene (well, I loved it, this is my blog so I get to speak for whoever I want) and the UofO. My family was there and we made great friends.

Another time was after graduating law school when Steve was looking for a job. We spent that summer in Boise while Steve studied for the bar and interviewed for clerkship positions in Las Vegas. About 3 days before he needed to start he heard that he got the job. It was really fun finding a house in a city we had never been to and moving all in 4 days. But, we were very grateful for the job.

Waiting for BAR results. This was so fun we played it twice. Once for the Idaho BAR and once for the Nevada BAR. I think Steve felt the most pressure for these ones. It's not fun waiting for test results that pretty much decide how your career will start. Both times the results were good.

Steve's clerkship is for 1 year, so as soon as he found out he passed the Nevada BAR he started looking for more permanent jobs. I think all of the firms and employers he has interviewed with have all played the waiting game a lot in their own lives, so they want to toy with us as much as possible. We have been waiting for many weeks just to hear back from some of these places on whether or not they have an offer for my deserving, hard working husband (who they have interviewed 3 times!).

While playing the waiting for a job game, we are also currently playing the waiting for Easton's test and ultra sound results game. For some reason some of his blood tests came back high for infection so they wanted to take a look at his liver. The technician can't tell us anything, so we wait for his dr to call us. Meanwhile, he has been acting totally healthy and seems to be fine, so we're hoping that they are just playing it safe and ruling things out.

So, those are some of our experiences with the waiting game. I know a lot of you have similar experiences. Waiting to adopt, waiting for your baby to get better, waiting for someone to get home from a 2 year trip to another country, waiting for your husband to get back from Afghanistan, waiting for Breaking Dawn to come out, waiting for your wife to get done blogging so you can go to the store (Steve wanted me to add that)...whatever it may be, waiting sometimes just really sucks.

Emily, I am totally feeling your pain. Landon and I thought we were in the clear but found out Tuesday that the birthfather doesn't think he's going to sign the papers. So we're waiting to see if he will!(screaming) I HATE THIS GAME!!!

HEck yeah I LOVE the waiting game! I would play it all the time, hey wait, I do!

just FYI I have been waiting anxiously about a job for Steve too! I keep asking John if he has heard anything! I think it is driving him a little nuts.

I promise you will look back at this time in your life with fondness! Wayne and I have played the waiting game so many times I feel like I'm a pro! The trick to winning is simply just waiting! No thinking or analyzing just waiting and going on with life. Praying a lot helps too, things usually turn out for the best when you include the Lord. (I know you probably know all this but I felt I had to give some sort of advice)
Good luck! Now you have one more person (me) praying for you so that can only be good right?

You totally rock at the waiting game--I usually have a mental breakdown of sorts (crying and ranting as I remember dumping on you one Sunday afternoon when you drove me home from church).

What the with little Easton though? Glad to hear he's feeling ok at the moment. Hope the tests resolve something, but take care girl! Good luck to Steve!

I hope everything is fine, I've played this game with tests and it's not a fun one!

This game is definitely the worst! Especially if you are super impatient like me - which I know you are. I hope the test's come out fine and that Steve gets some great offers!!

I have no idea why I just made the word "tests" possessive like that. It's been a while since I have been to school obviously!!

I can totally relate to the waiting game! Back in the day we waited for 9 whole months to see if your baby was a boy or a girl! I've played the test results game, sick baby game, potty training game, will they everoutgrow that obnoxious stage game and many others! We are praying for Steve to find the right job and for Eaton to be better! You are the greatest! Love you lots!

Waiting is the worst thing ever!!!!I hate it. I am sure Easton is going to be great too.

I totally agree with your post. The worst thing about waiting is that the answers are totally out of your control. I hate that. Anyway, hope all is well with little Easton. He is so cute.

The worst part about the waiting game is that you can't do anything to shorten the time you have to wait. I hate totally relying on other people. It stinks!

I hate the waiting game too. We'll be playing it again here in a few months to see where the Air Force is going to send us for the next few years. It is so hard not knowing what your future will bring. Good luck to Steve. Hopefully you'll hear something soon. Hope everything is okay with Easton too. It is so scary when your baby is sick.

Practice makes perfect! You guys must be getting really good at this waiting game thing.

Thank goodness you have a good attitude, that can make all the difference in that game especially.
These are serious things you are waiting on so I'm thankful you have friends and family who love you so much to help you wait and wait and wait.

I totally know how you feel. We have played the waiting game for many years, actually we are still playing the game. Sometimes I wonder if it will ever end. I hope things get worked out with Easton's Labs. I wish I could have been more helpful the other day. Good Luck!

Wow, I didn't know anything was going on with Easton, I need to look at old posts! Yes, I understand the waiting thing. We've been waiting to get a stinkin' apt. for MONTHS so we can apply for our stinkin' visas. I totally get it and I'm sorry. All will be well!

Waiting shmaiting - it is no fun at all. If patience is a virtue then I am not very virtuous. I hope you get to find out soon about Steve's job and that Easton is a healthy kid.

Hope all turns out well with Easton - it's definitely gotta be a good sign if he's at least acting healthy. Waiting for job news is no fun - good luck with that one too.
Our current waiting game is a little more in our own hands, but so much depends on the outcome! We're planning a move to Salem... sometime in the next year. But, the more we talk about it, the more we realize how much we have riding on it: when I'll go to nursing school, when Sean may go back to school, when we'll try for baby #2, etc. It's hard not being able to plan yet!

Emily - I hope you're not offended, I deleted your comment because we just gave the birthfather our blog address and we're trying to be really careful to not mention anything specifically, but I loved your comment...hope your waiting game is over soon!

The waiting game is my least favorite game to play. I have played this game one to many times.

I hope everything turns out ok with Easton. He is such a cute little guy.
With the whole job hunt thing I know that can be really stessful. That is the part of the waiting game that we play the most.
Our prays are with you!

PS Did you make that blog header yourself? If so how did you do it?
