The Secrets That You Keep

I have been told I talk in my sleep...by Steve, and I guess he would know. Last night was one of those occasions. Apparently Steve was sound asleep and not only was I talking in my sleep, but I woke him up to tell him what I had to say...rather forcefully I'm told. I don't remember any of this, but Steve always writes a text of what I say and then sends it to me, just to document it...so when I woke up this morning this was the text I read:

"Don't you wish it was 85 degrees in here?"

He was super pissed at me for waking him up, but I can't help it. I don't know why I would say that, it's not like I really want it to be 85 degrees in there. It's a cool 78, with the fan blowing right on us...not too hot, not too cold. But who ever says anything that makes sense in their sleep?

Some of the other texts I would have woken up to, had we had cell phones earlier on in our marriage:

"Super sky is when the sky is super sky." It's a tongue twister I know...no idea what it means.

"Where's my I Love Michelle shirt?!?!" I demanded this of Steve in the middle of the night once while we were living in Rexburg. I had a roommate named Michelle, and I do love NY, and when I went there I did get an I heart NY shirt...but the 2 are in no way related. Weird.

I'm not sure what makes me say weird things in my sleep. But I think it makes for good entertainment. When he's done being mad at me for waking him up, we both get a good laugh out of it.

So, what do you say in your sleep?

My husband and I BOTH talk in our sleep! I fell asleep watching a TV show the other night, and then apparently "woke up" to protest that I was NOT in fact asleep, I was taking inventory of our lawnmowers! Uh huh.. we don't even have a yard!
I love your blog Emily, keep more laughs coming!

I don't talk in my slept-atleast I don't think I do. But my kids do and it is hillarious. Don't worry, it adds personality-never a boring night!

I love this. My brother does crazy things in his sleep and every time we see his wife we just beg her to remember them all so we can laugh about it for hours. This is such a better idea--the texting in the morning what you said in your sleep, that is. I'm totally going to tell her about it.

That is hilarious. I know deep in your heart you want it to be 85 degrees you freak.

I don't think I talk in my sleep too much but I have heard Brian say a few weird things, I wish I remember what they were.

I don't think I have talked in my sleep for a while or else Damon just tunes me out these days. But, when I was doing my student teaching I would give him lectures in my sleep including quizes and handing out papers! I guess I was just practicing on him.

He also would ask me questions about my dreams and it would kind of wake me up and I would try to explain it to him but he just didn't get it! That's probably because it didn't make any sense at all as no dreams do once you wake up. And I would get mad at him because he wouldn't get it. I guess I am impatient in my half awake half asleep state! Good times!

I see nothing wrong with you wanting it it to be 85 degrees :) That is such a good idea from Steve to text you. That is awesome. I have been know to talk in my sleep but I would have to ask Nick. I do like the tongue twister!

thats so funny Emily. I talk AND walk in my sleep. Dan hates it when I wake him up but he tries to be a good sport & sometimes he talks back with me to see what he can get me to say. the one I will never live down though was when I was dreaming I was trying to save a puppy from being run over by a car; only the puppy was Dan's neck & I was totally strangling him. oops :)

I don't know if I've talked in my sleep lately, but I know I have in the past...

During college my room roommate and I used to have conversations with each other in our sleep. We only know this because one of our other roommates who stayed up till all hours of the night would hear us talking and come in to see what the fun was all about, until she realized that we were only rambling about nothing! Crazy.

Another time at a sleep over while I was in high school I fell asleep before my other friends (I know, me falling asleep first, thats unheard of). They told me in the morning that during the night I sat up and yelled, "There are tons of flies in here!!", which of course there weren't any flies at all.

Great post topic!

Is it too late to start claiming that Steve talks in his sleep?

You could have a lot of fun with that.

This is too funny! This is something I did not know about you! Maybe Steve should start a blog of all the things you say in your sleep!

That is so funny. John says I talk in my sleep sometimes, too. Only, I don't know that I talk as much as I sing, hum, mumble, grind teeth, kick, punch. Once he woke from a dead sleep to what he thought was a car alarm going off. He was so pissed that he jumped out of bed and went upstairs to look out the window (we sleep in the basement). When he didn't hear anything, he came back downstairs and could hear it again. He finally figured out it was me making car alarm sounds in my sleep. I think it's pretty funny though, as long as it isn't waking me up. Keeps them on their toes!

I am so glad Steve documents these things!

Those are hilarious! Aaron has never said I talk in my sleep but he sure does! It really startles me a bit but then I just stop and listen and snicker silently to myself. We are funny creatures, aren't we?

OH my- so funny- So Clay and I BOTH talk in our sleep! Hilarious! He constantly tells me things I say, and I always have things to tell him that he says. Clay says really funny things right when he's waking up..half in..half out of it. The last time, I woke him up- he sat up really quick and said, "Good luck- the turtle got on the wood" hhhaha- it does make a little sense since we'd been trying to get our turtle to get on the wood thing in the tank...but it was the first thing he said, and for some reason said, "good luck!" right before. Silly boy. Anyway- I love sleep talk, its' hilarious.

Eric doesn't talk in his sleep, I do. I usually get woke up with him quizzing me on the topic at hand. One I can remember was about a squirrel and he was asking me where it was, what it was doing and on and on.

One night when I was in high school, Valerie and Andrea were talking in their sleep TO EACH OTHER. They slept in bunk beds and I remember it was something about the chimney and it was funny!

I used to fight with and yell at my brothers in my sleep. My mom would tell me all about it. I don't know if I have yelled at Chris in my sleep yet, but I'm sure it's coming!

That's hilarious. Darren mumbles in his sleep but I can never make it out. I wish I could! Several times lately I'll wake up trying to push Darren around because I'm having a dream about Justin needing my help with something. I'm so embarrassed when I wake myself up and realize what I'm doing. Darren just laughs at me.

I'm just waiting for my kids to start sleepwalking. Kinda scary!

Tell Steve it's better than when you used to grind your teeth:) I love that he thought to text it.

Great post Em! I loved reading everyones sleep talking experiences!

haha. That is very nice of you to entertain him in the middle of the night. He should appreciate it more. I don't know how much I talk in my sleep but Rob said I slugged him a few weeks ago. I remember I was having a bad dream but I certainly did not remember taking it out on him ;)

You are SO funny! I wonder if these are glimpses into your deeper conscious. Oh that I was a psychologist and could analyze them to a sparkly meaning. I've sadly got nothin'.

Rather it makes me love you all that much more. If I do say anything in my sleep, it's probably stuff like..."pick up that towel" or "clean the toilets". You know profound yet utitilitarian!

Too funny, Em!! So glad I'm not the only one - and judging by everyone's comments I am most definitely NOT the only one. I tend to do more of the mumbling, though - not so much the distinct words. Sean says I used to sit straight up in bed and look out the window - freaked him out! Of course, I told him the next time I do it to wake me up and maybe I'll know why I was doing it. I haven't done it since - go figure!

That's hilarious! Why DO we say weird things in our sleep? One time my sister woke up (when we were younger) and yelled "mushy mushy cowboys!". She told me that I woke up one time and kept asking her where the fly swatter was. I think it's great to add unintentional humor to life. :o)

I'm so excited that you're going to Disneyland for Halloween! Honestly, after experiencing Disneyland at all different times of the year I have to say that around Halloween was the best time to go. The crowds aren't too bad and the decorations are awesome! When in October are you going? It's going to be great!!

How funny that he sends you a text so you can record it. I would never think to do that, coarse I'm the one talking and he's the one snoring. :)
