How I Made it Through Winter

The way I see it, Winter is sort of divided into 2 different mini-seasons. The first half of Winter is fun and magical, because it's the holidays and everyone is in a good mood...and when it's cold outside it's okay because it's associated with snow and Christmas and traditions and memories, etc, etc. And then there's the second half of Winter, that to me, serves no purpose. It's just cold and dark and long. So I just thought I'd share a few of the things we have been up to that have helped get me through the second half of Winter.Moments like this.

The random warm, nice park days.

Disney on Ice was so much fun...at least for me. Easton liked Cars and Mickey Mouse, but even during the parts he liked, he had this worried look on his face. He doesn't love lots of noise and crazy lights...or the Sea Witch. She made him cry.

Finally a nice, rainy day in Vegas...these don't come around often enough and we hurried outside to play before it stopped; hence the wussiest of all puddles.

The semi-annual visit of Steve's grandparents and Aunt and Uncle. We love when they come to town, it's always fun to see them! This is Easton with his Great Grandpa Fox. The same weekend, Aunt Kirsten came to see us and stayed for a week. It was fun to show her around Vegas since she had never been here. Thanks for coming Kir!Easton loves M&Ms so we toured the store on the strip. 12.99 per lb. are you kidding me? It's fun to choose your own colors but not THAT fun. Plus 3 year olds don't understand the concept of a quick pull and release...

Our nice friends took us to the Children's Museum. It was our first time and of course we loved it!! These boys loved fixing this car and playing on the construction equipment. Thanks Jen!

Ahhh, more sweet moments.

Movie night with buddies!

Valentine's fun! One part of Second-Half-of-Winter that I definitely support. I love my Valentine, he was so good to me. He took me out to the yummiest dinner and spoiled me with a new dress. I love it. And him. And to show him just how much, I made him heart-shaped pancakes.#39 is getting married in Oregon next week. My friend since I was 7. I can't wait to be there! I had fun going through old pictures (well, my mom found all the pics but it was fun seeing them after she sent them to me...thanks mom!) to give her for her wedding video. I believe this was 5th grade. I'm #41.

#39 - that's colleen, right? well, congrats to her - I wish I was headed to oregon for a visit, but being 35+ weeks pregnant is keeping me pretty close to home... I like winter here, if for no other reason than I don't have to deal with scorpions and rattlesnakes because they are hibernating! although, being in CA, winter still means blue skies and sun most days :)

I loved what you said about winter! It's so true! first half is magical for all those reasons, and the second half is bad- I never took the time to analyze it- you are spot on!

You're making it sounds like winter is over... is it in Vegas? It's still very much the crummy second half for us Salt Lakers. I'm not loving it.

Oh my gosh, that last picture. That made me laugh so much! I can't believe how long we've all known each other! I loved your post. Great moments.

Your winter sounds and looks a little more exciting than mine has felt. My post would be about runny noses, DR appts, ear infections and not doing a whole lot more. These last few days have been awesome- my fav part about living in Vegas. I LOVE the basketball picture- and the spandex!! The Children's museum was fun though.

Yes Liz, we're almost done with winter here. Better than when I lived in Rexburg and winter was half the year. Hopefully it will be over soon for you too!

I agree 100% about the 2 winters!!! I think of it that way too! The first half is AWESOME! I LOVE it! But the second half, UGH! Especially January! There is NOTHING to look forward to in that month! Seriously! At least its over! I can't wait for spring and SUMMMER! Love those pictures!! Carly is getting so big and chubby and CUTE!!! That last picture really cracked me up! Fun that you get to go home! I'm jealous of that! Love ya!

Love everything about this post, but I think that I am partial to the picture of Easton and Great Grandpa Fox.

I hate the 2nd half of winter. This year it has been cold and very little snow, which makes it even more horrible. I hate to see what summer is going to be like without any water!!!!! So, for that reason alone, I am praying that winter isn't over quite yet. Come on, let the snow fly.

I love everything about this post! I wish I lived at your house because I hate that I miss all these tender moments of Easton watching a movie with his friends on his cute DVD player and Carly playing at the park. And I'm so glad you had a great valentines day!!

The picture of Easton at Disney on Ice might be a close 2nd to my favorite picture of him plugging his ears to the fireworks on the 4th of july. hahahahaha. I love it!

And your 5th grade pic! hahaha NICE spandex, hot! And I love that you called Colleen by her number! oh man, so good!

I am so with you on the 2 parts of winter. 2nd half is lame. At least we live in a place that cold winter doesn't last until May. Love all the pics - looks like fun times even amid the dreary Jan.

And I love love love the basketball pic. You didn't need to tell us which one was you...you look the same (but more fashionable - although I really love the biker shorts). I love it!

Is our winter really that bad? We are lucky! It's going to be Spring next month, then summer weather in April - I have to take in the cold while I can so I can survive the heat. Love the shorts, love the picture of your team! I need to dig out my old basketball pics - so fun!

Amen to the second half of winter. It's about hanging on.

Great bball pic!

And loved C's six month pictures. I want to just squeeze her. Love her age. She is darling.

I hate winter after Christmas too. So bad. It looks like you've had some fun times, though!

So much to say...

LOVE the pic of Easton at Disney on Ice. Priceless.

LOVE that you run outside to play in the rain.

LOVE the flashback b-ball picture.

See you soon!

Cute post! It looks like you have had some very special moments the last couple months. I'm so glad for the signs of Spring, now that January is over I want time to just slow way down so we can enjoy every minute of the next nine months before it starts all over again. It's the dark in the morning and evening that is the worst part for me.

Love all the pictures! Can't wait for your visit.

Do they even have winter in Vegas??? I thought that was the best time of year. Not too hot and miserable. I look forward to seeing your post every Sunday! It makes me feel connected to you!

As a mom I have to say my favorite pics are the ones with Steve and Easton reading and Steve and Carly chilling..are they just waking up from a nap??

I don't think I would have been able to pick you out of your 5th grade basketball pic although you are the talles one! Have fun at your friend's edding!
