Happy Birthday to Me!

The festivities began with a night out with the girls. Katie (opposite end from me) was also having a birthday so we like to celebrate together. When was the last time you went bowling? Well you should go because it is FUN! First we stuffed ourselves at Claim Jumper where I made an idiot of myself by telling the waiter it was my birthday (usually someone other than the birthday girl does that). I was trying to tell him it was Katie's birthday (trying to be the "someone else" and hook a girl up with a free cupcake...and because mine was technically the next day), but it came out eventually and I just came out looking a little self absorbed. But we did score free red velvet cupcakes, which were good. And then the bowling. I don't know why this was so fun to me, but it was. None of us were very good, and I pulled a muscle after my first turn and am still sore. And see how I'm flexing my muscles in this pic? Well those babies could barely roll a 10 lb ball down the lane. If nothing else, so far 28 has reminded me that I'm a little on the wimpy side.

We decided to continue the party the next day at the park. I didn't realize until we got there that Hurricane Emily(named after me, of course...it was my birthday) was in full force. Everyone was nice to stay and play even if the kids were freezing at the splash park and our pizza was blowing away. Here are some of the girls enjoying Alison's awesome cupcakes. Easton isn't pictured because he refused to eat his cupcake and raided the watermelon instead. Whose kid is he?
Below is the only picture I got with my kids on my birthday. Easton was sad for some reason, and Carly had had enough of the wind. But look beyond the kids and the rats nest that is my hair and check out those cupcakes. I wish I would have gotten better pictures because they were the bomb. See how the frosting is oozing off the side? DELICIOUS. And not one ounce of chocolate in them...thanks Alison!!

I think this was my favorite part of birthday week.

Thanks to our good friends, Steve and I were able to go out and celebrate sans kids. We were looking forward to a nice, relaxing dinner, a walk around The District and then a movie. Sounds nice, right? Instead we got this:

Waiting an hour and 20 minutes for our food (the couple next to us got seated 40 minutes after we did and got their food before us). We even ordered right when we sat down so we wouldn't have to be rushed. The whole point of going to dinner without kids is to be able to actually enjoy your food instead of devouring it before one of your kids has a meltdown. I think they brought us our food at 7:45 and by 7:55 we were outta there. I even made us stay an extra minute to shove our dessert down our throat (this is me we're talking about). We ran to our car and actually sat down in the theater 30 seconds before the previews started (I do not like to miss previews). And then it hit me. Hard. I'll spare you the details, but basically something about our dinner didn't agree with me (or maybe it was the fact that I inhaled it). After several trips to the bathroom we decided to ditch the movie idea. Instead we walked around a little and Steve took me shopping for some new clothes. He must read my blog. We actually had a really good time for the most part, it just wasn't what we planned. I just loved being with him.

And to top it off, tonight we had a yummmmmmmy raspberry cheesecake. We had a little help with the singing and eating.Careful Easton, those veins in your neck are going to pop from that cheesy smile.

Thanks everyone, I was definitely feeling the birthday love!

GREAT POST. So 2 days ago I was totally thinking, "Emily's bday is tomorrow!" And then today I thought, "Oh no! Emily's bday was yesterday!" Happy late Bday! 28, do you feel old? I feel old. It sounds like you had a great celebration. Oh man, the dinner, the tummy, the whole thing- not fun- but GREAT story! Oh man, the cheesecake, I want one. Carly gets cuter every single post. She is sooooo beautiful. Perfect round cheeks, her soft hair. She's a beauty!

I seriously had so much fun bowling. I mean I was by far the best bowler there! Good time. Hurricane Emily was insane. And who was the jerk that left her kids with you when you had your birthday cake! Ummm I feel really bad about that now, I didn't know you were doing that!

Happy Birthday! Sorry that not all went according to plan - but at least you had some good treats. That's the most important part.

Who knew bowling could be so much fun? I certainly didn't. But I am officially off my "I hate bowling" kick. Let's do it again real soon!

There are so many things I love about this post! First of all, you look ADORABLE in that bowling pic! You're the hottest 28 year old around! And also, I totally agree, I'm always pleasantly suprised when I go bowling... it's fun!

All of the pictures are awesome! hahaha. The one of you and the kids is actually my favorite. It's so adorable! It's like your protecting your babies from the wind. I love it!

And CARLY IN HER SWIMSUIT!!!! oh my heavens that is too perfect. I can't wait to see it in person.

And mostly, I'm really sorry that things went down the tube on your hot date birthday date. But, atleast you got a night out with your man. I love you and I'm glad you had a great day!!!

Oh Emily, I feel so bad that I forgot your birthday. I hope that you had an awesome day, even with all the hiccups. I hate slow restaurants!!! They can really mess up some great plans. Glad you were able to adapt and make it a great date.

Love the pictures of the cuties!! You are such a great mom, wife and friend.

Love ya tons, and Happy belated Birthday!!!

You are very loved, and I'm so glad you had a great birthday. You've got some good friends and and an amazing family and I'm glad they spoiled you. You deserve it. This morning I was rushing to get Lily ready, so we could run Allie to preschool, and she was in here looking at my blog, and was like "mom there's this reeeeeeally cute baby in pink you gotta see her!" and I was in such a rush I forgot to come see until now when I sat down at my computer and there was this extremely enlarged picture of Carly on my screen. Made my day. I love you!

Oh man, I'm so mad that dinner was so crappy and you had to rush! There's nothing worse than bad service. I guess it's a good thing the kids weren't with you.
Bowling was so much fun, sorry we didn't make it to the park for hurricane Emily. I'm going to do something for you for your birthday when I get back- I promise.
