Memorial Day 2010

I have always loved Memorial Day. I have so many great memories of this day from my childhood. Many times we went up to visit my grandparents in Corvallis, and years later, visit their graves. I really loved doing that. And it also meant a great picnic with our family and the Mitchells. Even though things are a little different now, I hope it will always be a fun holiday. This year it was. For sure. Steve didn't work and JENNI AND MICHAEL CAME!!!!

I didn't take nearly enough pictures, but we really didn't do anything that exciting (sorry guys, hope you weren't bored). It finally got hot here so we did lots of swimming. Turns out Michael is part fish. And we introduced them to Pesky Pirates. We love this game; it's so cute and perfect for little kids.

And Jenni taught us how to make tie dye cupcakes. Super fun!!

Separate the cake batter and dye it...

Scoop in one color at a time...

And there ya go!! I forgot to get a picture of the finished product. Oops. Trust me, they look cool.

Jenni and Michael were the best kid entertainers and guests, we loved having them. They were so helpful and fun to be with! Plus it was fun to get someone else addicted to 24. I miss it so bad. Thanks for everything, come back soon!!!!

*Did any of you have any luck trying to explain Memorial Day to your 3-4 year olds? I tried telling Easton how we get to honor those people who fight for our country, etc...but he just told me that it isn't nice to fight...

I have never heard of pesky pirates. I will have to look for that one! Owen loves games too. Memorial Day...haven't even tried to explain that to Owen yet. But Easton is right. It's not nice to fight.

Oh, my sweet boy! I hope he always feels that it isn't nice to fight. The cup cakes look amazing, and it all looks like so much fun. You did good by this Memorial Day and I'm glad that you learned to love it and know that it is more than just a three day weekend.

The picture of Carly and Steve in the pool is so great, I'm glad he had a day to relax and that Jenni and Michael could be there and enjoy it all with you.

We celebrated on Saturday and that was good because taking the truck back to UP on Memorial Day was just plain torture. The day was saved only by our traditional picnic with Mitchells.
