Last Summer Visitors

Even though it was all planned out ahead of time, I was THRILLED that Aimee and Lani were able to drive back from Idaho with me. I don't know if I could have done that trip again by myself. It probably wasn't ideal having 5 people crammed into my little car, but they didn't complain and were super helpful with the kids. I'm sure they were happy to be able to fly home though.

We had lots of fun while they were here, and as I'm writing this I can't believe that summer is almost over and we won't have any more visitors for awhile.

Their first day here, Lani noticed a couple of chairs in my neighbor's garbage pile. So, we took them. I was hesitant, not because I care that we stole them, but because I thought Steve would be mad at me for starting another project, or having ugly chairs sit in our garage for months (years). But, thankfully, my MIL doesn't operate that way. She had those things taken apart (started with 2 chairs, and put them together to make one, more sturdy, chair) and put back together in no time. With kids asleep I grabbed my floaty and was headed off to be lazy in the pool and noticed her hard at work. So I helped. A little. But she did most of it because she's awesome.
Took the chairs from here. One man's trash...

Taking them apart. It was probably around 108 degrees while she was out here working away.
This is the new seat cushion. I didn't get any pics of the spray painting or an after picture, but just picture a chair painted white with that cushion. It's up in the loft and I love it. I love Steve's mom for teaching me not to procrastinate, or walk away from unfinished projects. It was so much fun doing this with them!
Since it was so blasted hot the week they were here we took a picnic up to Mt. Charleston and spent the afternoon in cooler weather. Easton and Grandma always like to hide and try and scare me.

I love this picture because Steve is in it. He works too hard and has to miss out on all of our fun trips, so this had to be documented. Love these guys! Thanks for such a fun visit Grandma and Aimee, you guys are the best!

I'm so glad you let us come. Sometimes I wonder if you just feel imposed upon, but hopefully you know we love you!! Thanks for the fun times, I want to come back since it already feels like fall here.

And you know I would move to Vegas in a heartbeat on just two criteria.

What criteria?!! Tell me so I can make it happen!

Holy crap, Carly is so big! I almost didn't recognize her! That pic of your fam made me want to come visit so bad. I can't believe you didn't document the chair. I'm so jealous. As much as I love seeing what other people can do with "junk" it makes me feel like such crap for not knowing how to do it. I'm excited for you though! I wish I had cute furniture. Mine is sooooo ugly. We need a new couch soooooo bad.

I'm so jealous of your chair!!! Why couldn't your Mother-in-law help us with our hard chairs? Or better yet, why did we even start our hard chairs? Why can't I find other people's junk attractive and turn it into something so cool? I'm glad summer is almost over so you might stick around awhile now so we can get back to hanging out more- sorry I'm a little jealous of all your family time!

Emily-- Carly is looking far too big. I just can't believe it! I love your kids so much and they're so cute! It looks looks like such a fun time and I'm really glad you guys got to spend some time with them, including steve!

And also, your chair is AWESOME!

I love that you refinished chairs from the dumpster and inspired me to take one from your other neighbor. But mine is sitting in the garage forever.

Fun times. And Carly is looking way too grown up sitting in that little chair.

Family visits are the best! Especially when they help with kids and help with projects! That's so great.

I want to see the chair, that is so cool that she would even think of doing that let alone finishing the project. Amiee looks adorable! Glad you all had such a fun visit and that they were able to help you on the car ride.

We got so excited about the chair that now Aimee bought a dresser to refinish. The only problem is that it is at her house so if I want to work on it I have to go to her house, but I too lazy after school!

We love spending time with your family, you ALWAYS make us feel welcome!

Love you Lani
