Traumatized

So we all went in to the dr to get shots. Carly had her 15 month check up (healthy: about 22 lbs), E had his 4 year old well check (healthy: about 38 lbs...tall and skinny), and the 3 of us got flu shots too. Everything was going mildly okay for awhile. E let the dr check him out and did really well, Carly cried if the dr even looked her way, but I think most of that is her age...anyone new is the enemy. Then it came time for the shots. I told Easton that we'd go oldest to youngest, so that I could show him how easy it was, then he could show Carly how brave he was...you get the idea. And this was big for me because in reality, I'm not brave. I HATE SHOTS. I wanted to whine and cry like a baby, but I didn't because I'm so mature. Then Easton sat down for the nurse and rolled up his sleeve, and said, "I think I'm going to be really brave." Apparently he and I have different definitions of what really brave is, because he screamed and hit and kicked so hard and loud it was unbelievable(Mom, remember the sliver fiasco? This was worse.). The nurse went to get someone to help us, and a few seconds later the Enforcer (I'm not kidding, this nurse was a big guy) comes walking down the hall. He squeezes Easton so tight but it still takes me and the nurse to hold him down, all while she's trying to stab him with needles. Carly is screaming her guts out too because she's seeing what she has to do next and realizes it sucks.

Somehow we survived. I don't know why I didn't make Steve come with me. The nurse assured me that Easton wouldn't need anymore shots until he is 11. I wonder how many people it will take to hold him down then.
Here we are after all the tears were done, sporting our stickers. After all that we got stickers? Not even a CIB...hardly worth all that screaming. I got monster trucks, Carly has iCarly , and E has Toy Story.

I couldn't complain in front of Easton about how much I hate shots, but I really hate them. And my arm was sore for the next 3 days.

Wow, that does not sound fun. CIB? I didn't know what you were talking about 'till I clicked on the link- SO FUNNY and completely random! I don't know why, but I don't mind shots at all. I don't understand why everyone is so bugged by them. EVERYONE hates shots. I don't mind them at all. Sometimes they hurt, but I swear half the time they don't. It just made me think of Scarlet's shots coming up. Ooooo, now I don't want them. It will be horrible! I'll probly cry too :( Yeah, what happened to suckers? That's what we had. Is it 'cause it's not healthy or something? When I worked at the glamourous Great Clips we gave suckers to the kids after their haircut.

Wow I think you are better than me, because I just took Mac to the dr to get a shot and I just told him that they were going to give him medicine I didn't tell him anything else so he had no idea what was coming. He freaked but the nurse had me hold him a certain way so that I could hold him tight when she actually stuck him. He was mostly mad afterwards and kept telling people he got an owie at the dr and showing them the wrong arm, haha! He is going back in next month and the month after that to get caught up on his booster so we will see how that goes since he now knows and doesn't ever forget anything!

I am glad E won't have to get anymore for a long time.

Oh my gosh, isn't it surprising how strong they can fight when it comes to shots?! Jake is the same way. Thankfully, our pediatrician gave Ben this huge Knight talk about how shots were like armor for our body, yada yada, and Ben ate it all up. Jake, on the other hand...

You all look cute as can be after your shots, at least!

LOL!!! That's hilarious, I can just see you holding him down..okay not funny. Yowza! in college I had to have blood drawn a LOT, and I became good friends with the nurse, she knew I needed to relax, recline in the "special" chair, and then she had a nice story to tell me while I closed my eyes and waited for it to be over. her story usually had to do with wildflowers or babies, something really lovely ;)

Good job, Em, I'm glad you were so brave! Shots do suck, I'm with you on that one. Don't they have those 'wave in front of you nose' ones for kids? Maybe NV doesn't get the high class flu shots. Too bad:(!

I'm glad you were so mature and didn't cry for your shots. The way you just described "The Enforcer" cracks me up! Poor Easton to have to go through all that and then Carly having to witness the trauma she was going to have to go through. Shots do suck!

At my doctor's office, the nurse had me do something that looked like a wrestling move to hold down my youngest for shots. I had to sit him between my legs, cross my legs over his legs, and wrap my arms around him securing his arms to his chest. Shots hurt these poor kids! Poor Easton. I'm glad you guys got treats for getting shots.

And by treats, I meant lousy stickers. This Emily Bowman, btw.

Ok first of all, I couldn't stop staring at your picture, seriously, for a long time because you are SO BEAUTIFUL, my GOODNESS, you are gorgeous in that pic! OK- your story about teh shots- oh my gosh- first of all, I don't know how I will do that with my kids- I HATE SHOTS- (i know that sounds silly after my chemo and everything) but I HATE shots! I'm going to have to have mike do it with our kids- WHAT YOU DID was amazing, to do that without whining and whimpering infront of your kids, that is amazing-I am a huge baby with shots. That is so cutethat he said "I'm going to be really brave"

First of all, your hair looks SO SO good! You look fantastic! And so do my babies. I especially love Easton's thumbs up. I don't even know how you faked it not hurting. I am terrified of getting a flu shot and I would probably totally cry like a baby! So I'm glad you were able to tough it out for the little guys.

They were very brave! And the story about Easton is kind of my favorite hahaha! I'm sure it wouldn't have been funny if I was there. But it's certainly funny reading it!

You guys are all cuties! Teslyn had her one year shots today. I just realized Owen needs his 4 year old ones. I hate shots too, so I know what you mean!

The four year old shots are definitely the hardest because there are so many and because they are old enough to be aware of what's going on. I always hate those. We do a flu shot for everyone too because it's good to do and because we have 2 diabetics to worry about. I just have to remind myself that one shot is better than the flu! Easton must be super strong!

Well, Claire got Jonas Brothers stickers at her appointment. I guess that's all they do now... bummer.

At least you got super cool stickers!!! I agree with Megan, who does like shots?!?!

Emily. You crack me up! I think you should be a writer. Your stories are so amusing! I bet it wasn't really that funny at the time. Doctor visits with two kids are never really fun. Also, I'm with everyone else that said how beautiful you look! It's not very fair that you got all the beauty genes....

My poor babies, all of you! I hate shots with a passion. I was brave this time with the flu shot because Dad was there it hurt for days. Adorable picture.

I can just see Easton during that little adventure:)

Oh dear. What a sad story! Glad you all survived. Easton doesn't look too traumatized; that is quite the grin he's got on! Glad you're done for awhile. How do nurses do that all day?!

LOL I hate shots too. Aimee needed a tetnus shot in the hospital. We were all there and everyone of us turned our heads and groaned in sympathy as she got stuck! She said it was easier than she thought. The nurse said it was the same gauge as the baby shots were. I told her she would have to do her "choo-choo" arm when ever it felt sore. Brought back memories of all those childhood immunizations!
