A Place Like No Other

As our time in Eugene comes to an end, I feel inspired to share with everyone my love for this place. I know I'm biased, since I grew up here, but really, it's a great place. Not only is it beautiful; the trees, the mountains, the rivers and flowers...I am totally mesmerized by the beauty. It's not too cold in the winter, or too hot in the summer, and we don't get tons of snow. Although if you're into the whole snow thing, it's just a short drive. But more than the natural beauty, I am in love with the diversity here. This place has a uniqueness that is all it's own. There is no other place like it. Where else can you walk around downtown or in the park, and see someone (female, not male) walking around without their shirt on? And bras? Who needs them? I've been up to Skinner's Butte a couple times recently and almost every single girl I saw decided that morning that a bra would be way too constricting. At least they went with a shirt. And, after being there about 5 minutes I was offered pot. See...not only are people here free and spirited, they are also friendly and generous. I know a lot of people are annoyed by the hippies, the homeless and the crazies...but I love them all, and it just wouldn't be Eugene without them. I know that there are plenty of other great places to live, and that every city has something that makes it unique from others. I love to travel and visit new places, but there will always be a special place in my heart for Eugene. Alright, enough of my Texas Pride attitude...I'm done.

People tend to have fond feelings about the place they grew up. Some times they focus on only the good, and forget the bad. Having said that, I love the climate here, I love the change in political opinion (as opposed to Idaho or Utah), and of course I love the no bra thing. Just kidding! You would think it is 30 degrees year round looking at these bra-less wonders. I keep hearing these stories of topless women in downtown Eugene, but thankfully, I have yet to see them. I think the hairy pits override everything else. THAT (hairy pits) is one thing that will not be missed!

I lived in Eugene for 3 years then moved to somewhere completly opposite. That said both John and I have realized how much we really did like Eugene. We find that we miss it! I never thought that! I mean I knew I would miss some people that I met (you, for instance)but not Eugene as a whole! And I disagree a little with Steve, as I have very BAD feelings about where I grew up!

Fair point Destiny. I share your similar feelings about the place I grew up. I feel I have little to no attachment to Nampa, Idaho. And that is why I used the word "tend" instead of a blanket phrase like "all people have."

I, too, am finding myself a little nostalgic thinking of Eugene and how our time here is ending. It is a great place with unique people and beautiful surroundings. I will not, however, miss the rain.

I will miss Eugene too. I will miss all of the Duck decals on every other car window. I will miss Autzen stadium and the Register Guard's sports page (I will not miss the letters to the editor page, though). I will miss all the political bumper stickers and bikers. I love the mix of hippies, yuppies, and red necks. Eugene is a fun town, we have had a good six years here.

Em, ok...you've known me a long time and you know i like to walk around town (especially Eugene) without a shirt on. I mean, come on! Show a little respect. I am incredibly offended that you wouldn't consider my feelings before you wrote that blog!! Still love ya though.

Oh Eugene. I do love it too. It has it's own fun uniqueness that's for sure.

Anyway I am going to miss you!
