No Fair!

Recently I have come to the conclusion that I'm not good at anything. No, I take that back, I'm good at things, but I'm not GREAT at anything. Blogging is so awesome because I get to keep in touch with so many friends from all over. But it also kills me because I get to see how talented everybody is in their different endeavors. For example, this friend is a talented photographer AND super crafty. This friend is an awesome runner and personal trainer. This friend saves my hair (and everyone elses), and plays the piano beautifully. This friend just has good decorating ideas oozing from her and has a super cute house because of it. You get the idea. There are tons of other people not mentioned who are GREAT at cooking, gardening, decorating, scrapbooking, organizing. Such useful things! Below is a list of the things I consider myself to be "okay" at.

* basketball
* volleyball
* softball
* baking
* taking pictures
* sewing (I'm putting in on there because I've done it before...not because I'm good at it.)
* playing the piano

I think I have decided that I want to find something that I can be great at. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the talents that I have, and I know I'll be struck down for all the envying that I'm doing, but seriously...you people are so talented!!

This all came about because of all the blog hopping that I do. Friend's blogs...friends of friends blogs. People have talents that they share with other people, and in return get something done for them in some other talented form. I have seen such cute things that these people have done on their blogs, and I just got a little jealous. So if anyone has any ideas of something that I should take on and master...let me know.

So funny! I have been wanting to rant about this myself. It's nice to know that you think decorating is a skill. It just means I am good at spending money or listening to my mom.

I want you to know that you have taught me how to make my blog all cute-like. I couldn't have done that without you and you pictures of Easton are super duper cute.

I also think you are SUPER talented at making people laugh. I remember first meeting you at Bunko and thinking, "This is one funny chick. I gotta get to know her better." Seriously, you make people laugh and feel comfortable. Perhaps you can't hang that on a wall or serve for dinner but it is ten times better than anything that you could hang on a wall or serve for dinner..

Don't forget you are a great baker too! That fruit pizza won first place at the YW/YM competition! It was delish!

Um, and I am totally jealous of your sports skills! How I wish you lived by me so I could be more useful in my calling as YW Athletic director (I try not to laugh when I write that). Seriously, I have no idea what I am doing.

Okay, do you realize how super cool you are yet?

you are FABULOUS at being Easton's mom!!! and that is a blessing to both your son and your husband, as well as your families!!!

also, i have very fond memories of trying to imitate pretty much everything you did for several years in the early nineties... you were and continue to be GREAT at being a friend :)

I totally know what you mean! I feel the exact same way about myself. With the Reagan is going maybe I will be good at being a WWF referee :)
Seriously though, you are great at things. I totally agree with Ilene about making people laugh. I love just hanging out even if I am still in my PJ's. And you need to putting running on your list of athletics. Do people know you are extremely fast??

Uh......you have a smile that is infectious......um, I've never heard you say a bad thing about anybody and we all know THAT is a talent......let's see here.......you are always quick to give out compliments.....I know these aren't tangible things that people can do and show or give away.....BUT, nonetheless they are talents

Hey now, why didn't you put a link to mine and say that I am your friend who is really good at belching? Come on! Oh and remember we share that talent?

I did a Lesson in YW about talents, and one thing we discussed was how others see our talents more than we ourselves do. Oh and don't "bury" your talents, just FYI. LOVE YA!

Um, pretty sure you are talented - I have a homemade baby towel to prove it!!

Seriously though Em you are the coolest! You are such a nice friend and you always make sure you are there for everyone. You are awesome!

I totally understand. As I surf blogs I feel the same way. And I am sure you are good at a lot of things, but I know what you mean about finding something special that you can do really good. Maybe we could come up with something and learn to be GREAT at it together. I'll have to think on that one for a while. Maybe we should take up belly dancing?

hem hem, i have something to say... you forgot to mention being a sister. You're the best at being one of those.

Who stays up late with me listening to me rant and cry when she is exahsted from worries of her own? YOU DO.

Who is the most patient person with me I have ever met? YOU ARE.

You are SO talented. And you're totally talented at being pretty :) Seriously- just because i'm a big girl now doesn't mean I don't still want to be just like you. :)

love you sis.

Emily seriously, if you think about my talent in those sporty areas, you will realize you are great! Not okay. You don't have to be a pro to be great. I'm not an Olympic hair person (yes, I recently discovered there is HAIR OLYMPICS!!!! I think it's kinda sad.) You have many talents. And not all talents are so physical. Maybe you are patient, or a great listener or advice giver. There are many things. By the way I just thought of one. You are really a positive and encouraging person. You are always like, "Awesome! Way to go! You are so great!" Always saying nice and encouraging things. I am definitely NOT that way. And it's good you ARE that way.

I don't really have a talent either. I was just glad for the talk that some general authority gave on having the talent to be able to weep. I've got that one covered. Seriously though, you are one funny chick!

You guys are all WAY too nice! I'm pretty sure I have the best friends ever! I didn't mean for you guys to list good things about me, but thanks! I won't lie, it feels dang good! I'm still going to be on the lookout for something to be great at...I might take up Jenn on the belly dancing thing...

Love you all!

Seriously, you took the words/thoughts right out of my brain. I have been struggling with this my whole life, but especially since I started blogging. I really admire everyones talents and wish I did something really well.

But I think you do lots of things really well and a big one is being a good friend. That takes talent.

Emily, you're so funny, and everything everyone has said is all true. Steve hit a home run when he married you. I think it's awesome you want to develop a new talent too. It's exciting to learn, it's too bad it takes so long. But, think of all the time we have to learn new skills and cool tricks.....we're not even 30....by the time we're 60 we'll be oozing with talent, moooohahaha!

Em, what about your talent with painting stuff? Duh...when we start our paint/ice cream/clothing business that is one talent you already have down pat!

Emily you are really great at making everyone feel included. I always felt like an outsider and you have this talent at making people feel included. So what's that quote... "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice." That's you girl.

But hey there's a lot of fascinating olympic sports that aren't that popular, so it must not be that hard to be good at them (i.e. curling, badminton, table tennis, or a new one wushu , or the discontinued art of ski ballet). I'm sure you could capitolize on your innate athletic abilities and excel at one of those!

Hey Em. I just want to say ditto to all these entries. It's sad that us girls are cursed with this whole comparison deal. It drives me nuts myself. I was shocked to find out when I got married that Darren doesn't do that! It's just a stupid girl thing. I have a confession to make: I love it when I hear you get frustrated and complain because it makes me feel better. You are so incredibly positive and encouraging and kind and non-judgmental ALL of the time. I seriously couldn't have hand-picked a better sister-in-law.

Emily, I totally know what you mean. I guess we kind of talked about it at book club. I know all these people who have so many talents and interest, and I'm into...books? I don't know. Maybe we should all take a pottery class together or something. If you want a friend to join you in a quest for a hobby, count me in!

Can I add that you are the best at memorizing and reciting movies!! Do I need to mention the Miss Miller pageant!!! You are too cute!!

Well, that was interesting. First of all, I think you have one of the cutest sites and have motivated me to try to do better. I sit and wonder how you did certain things.

Plus lots of the talents you mentioned are outward, and I love my outward talents, but, I will tell you I really love my inward ones. They are the most important ones. The Savior made that very clear with the Mary and Martha story. I remember very clearly when someone we both love very much was having some problems and you were so nonjumgemental, whereas other people your age were very judgemental. I loved you more than I already did which was hard to do, since I loved you tons!! It meant a lot to me to know that you would always be there for that person. I've never known you to say a bad thing about anyone. That is a far greater talent than any other talent I can think of. I envy that. My mouth opens faster than my brain thinks. I have to eat a lot of words. I agree with with another comment someone said about your smile and encouraging others. You make me feel so good about my blog. I love you sooooo much Em. As far as outward talents, they come as we continue to work on them and try new things. I never knew I could paint until I was in almost 40. So there is lots of time for great talents!!!
