Frozen Style

Does anyone else ever feel like they are a little bit stuck where they are, as far as style is concerned? I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I really don't think that I have changed very much about how I look or dress since high school. I still love my flared jeans, plain colored t-shirts, and all things tomboyish. Even in high school, I never really was very concerned with the current trend or fashion (those of you who attended my high school can verify this). I don't even think I wore any make-up until maybe my senior year...unless there was a dance or something. Come to think of it, to this day I still don't really know the good, or right way to put on the stuff...I guess I'm just a tomboy at heart. I don't share most girls' fascination with purses, handbags, shoes, or most other accessories. I have about 5 pair of shoes that I rotate through, and some headbands...that's about as crazy as I get.

I just sometimes wonder if I'm going to be 45 years old, still sporting my Redsand t-shirt, flared jeans and flip flops...not that that would necessarily be bad. I don't want to be 45 and trying to act like I'm 25. I guess I just need to make sure I find a happy medium. It almost seems silly to me when I try something new, because I think to myself, " I would never have worn this in high school". But then I have to remind myself that that was a long time ago, and I hated high school anyway, so why would I care?! Recently I have been trying to branch out and embrace new fashions, and it has been fun. My next new thing to try is flat shoes. They are all SO CUTE on other people, but I have this issue with my feet looking really big...

How do all you cute, stylish people do it? You're so brave.

I know what you mean...I sometimes get overwhelmed about trying to get hip that I just give up. But you always look so cute so don't you fret. And I constantly worry about my feet looking huge (soft spot for me, since my feet are big for my size) but I think that cute flat shoes make your feet look smaller because they aren't as big and chunky as some other shoes. Just do it!

1. Amen sister. Saying that I have 5 pairs of shoes that I wear is actually stretching it. I have Winter Shoes which consist of either a pair of running shoes or doc martins, and summer shoes, which are flipflops, and I suppose there are Church shoes but those don't really count. Those are just me trying to be socially acceptable.
2. yes, i am totally serious, we would LOVE to come visit. We haven't been to Vegas since Allie was born, so it might actually be nice to go and not blow all of our money for once... seeing how she is not 21 yet. ;) I'm not sure I even have your new number or email address... email me! 3. Gosh, I guess there is no 3. I guess I've said everything I wanted to say.

I remembered what 3 was going to be. Yes I totally think about what its going to be like when I'm old, and I wonder, "am i still not going to care what my hair looks like?" I swear I've seriously had this whole internal dilemma you're going through myself.

I am constantly trying to memorize what other people are wearing so that I can try to copy it but then when I do it myself I think that I look stupid in it or that I look like I'm trying too hard to appear cute and hip! I've decided that I just need to hire someone to shop for me and put together outfits to wear because it's too draining to keep trying!!

Ok so I think this is a post-partum thing. Well not that makes you unstylish just what brings it to your attention. My only jeans right now are ones I bought my JR year, I still wear overalls I had in 8th grade. But I have been trying really hard to clean out my closet, and I did get a cute hair cut and that was a huge step for me!

Well I like your current style just fine, but I know what you mean. Here in TN some of my friends that I haven't seen in about 3 or 4 years said, "Christi, you look just like you did in high school." I guess I looked 5 1/2 months pregnant then too. Somethings never change.
Flats are really cute!

Amen sister! I so lack the knack for style. And, did Alison just try to say that she gets overwhelmed trying to be in style? She is the cutest, most stylish person I know! And, can I just say that the day we went to Jamba juice with you and you wore your cute little headband. I was so jealous of how cute you look in headbands. I've secretly wanted a headband ever since then. But, whenever I try them on they look horrid on me.

I totally agree with everything you said. I am still wearing jeans and t-shirts like I did in high school, everything the same since high school except I'm not the same size unfortunately. I want to wear headbands too and I seriously think you always look cute, and I would come to you for fashion advice!

Emily, I look the same as I did in High School. I have thought about cutting my hair shorter. Since old people have shorter hair, but just can't bring myself to do it. I have been in a time warp for a long time. Can't wear the high heels, short(er) skirts, misses sizes, or form fitting anything. I still get to wear my ponytail, nearly 50 and proud to say that I can. Don't worry about it too much, the man you married loves you no matter what you do, or how you look.

Love ya

I love love love ballet/flats shoes. Most of my shoes are those, come to think of it. I agree with the other comment saying on those shoes won't make your feet bigger because they down play them, and you are tall enough to pull them off. Long legs work so well with flats. And if you feel strange at first, put them with pants in stead of skirts first. Good luck!

I totally agree. I am a jean, flip-flop, and t-shirt girl also. But lately I have had fun embracing some new styles. And I totally love the cute flat shoes, I need to get some. So go for it. Who knows, you might LOVE it and turn all girly.

There is nothing wrong with being a little girly sometimes. Like in that picture of you and E, you look totally hot with that bright color top over the collared shirt. See, you can pull anything off. You also look freakin cute in headbands. Try the flat shoes, they rock. I only started wearing them because of the short boys I would date and now they are perfect with Ryan! Just try them!

I am exactly the same way. I've even been mulling over the same issue as I get dressed each morning the past couple weeks. My birthday is coming up and I think I'm going to give myself a little shopping spree and branch out a little too.
As far as the cute and stylish thing goes, I usually just copy whatever my friends do and try not to wear the same thing on the same day. :)

I think you always look good and who says flare jeans, t-shirts and flip flops aren't hot?

Emily you are the cutest girl! I love your style!

I struggle with this too lately so I find myself watching a lot of "What Not to Wear". That way when I go shopping I can pretend that I have Stacy & Clinton with me (who wouldn't want to shop with them!!)

I feel the same way that all of my fellow bloggers do. I have a little sister who is really stylish and cute so whenever I go home I try to copy her a bit and she loves dressing me up and doing my hair and makeup. It is fun but whenever she gets me all dolled up I think "This is NOT me!" But Damon totally loves it and thinks I look hot....that's probably because I don't do much with myself at home...why would I when I hardly ever leave the house?!

I love the flat ballet type shoes. They make your feet look little and cute. Go for it! It may take you a while to get used to it but you won't be sorry you branched out a bit.

The other day I was telling Darren that all the clothes I saw on the Fashion Show on Oprah were hideous and he said, "That's because you're stuck in the '90s!" I'm afraid he's right. I still shop at the Gap and AE just like High School. Oh well, who has time to shop or look cute when you're chasing 2 kids?

Ilene said...

I'm with Tara. I love What not to Wear for tips. However, that usually translates into me trying to find something Stacy and Clinton worthy at Target. That can be tough.

The best thing is to take someone shopping with you who is more "stylish" than yourself.
That way they will force you to try something new and make sure that you look cute.

Not that it is needed, you are adorable no matter what.

I'm not by any means cute and stylish, more like you when it comes to fashion but I have found out that I love incorporating a little bit newer styles. Remember my comment about Jenni and how dang cute and stylish she looks? definitely a risk taker and it pays off for her! I think it would for you too cause you've got such a pretty face and great body, anything would work on you. But if you're anything like me, you're not used to looking different and so ANYTHING that you don't consider "normal" will look a little weird for a little while. but it's worth the risk. I sure have far to go but ii'm enjoying looking more put together! And flats are the best! I love 'em! Good luck and have fun with it! You're look awesome!

Emily, I totally know what you mean. I always see people dressed so cute and I want to be stylish, too. I think you just learn as you go. I'm totally a t-shirt and jeans girl, too. I say wear whatever feels comfortable to you. :o)

And I can't believe that you hardly ever wore make-up in high school! Holy beautiful girl!! I always thought you were so adorable! I couldn't go anywhere with make-up...mostly because of the hideous dark circles under my eyes that won't go away!! Ack! I hate them!

Kim said...

Heh heh heh...I meant to say I couldn't go anywhere WITHOUT make-up...you knew what I meant, right? :o)
