Cookies & Cereal

I recently ordered some cookie dough from a friend's daughter for a school fundraiser. It was so super cute when she called and asked me to, that I couldn't resist. Plus, I don't say no to cookies. Anyway, I have 2 boxes of dough in my fridge/freezer, and all I have to do is preheat my oven and put the dough on a cookie sheet. Totally easy. So, I decided that I better do something to force myself not to eat too many cookies at a time every day, so I got out my smallest pan. It holds about 6 cookies safely...without them running into each other(I don't like it when my cookies touch...it makes them look less pretty). I started out pretty good, but after a few days, before I knew it my pan and cookies looked like this.

So much for self control.

I'm also asking a question to all those who read my blog. What is your favorite kind of cereal? I don't really love cereal, but it's pretty much all I have time for in the mornings. I just get so SICK of eating the same kinds. I need to have some variety...that's where you come in. Tell me your favorites so I can discover something new and yummy and not be bored. Lately I have had frosted mini wheats, honey nut cheerios and carmel nut crunch...which I thought I would really like because it's similar to raisin bran crunch -minus the raisins (and Aimee, I don't have the patience to take all the raisins out)- but it's way too sweet for me and I am SO over the other kinds. I don't do raisins or chocolate...so keep that in mind when sending your suggestions my way. Thanks!

Em, if you just take the raisins out at the beginning then you can enjoy the rest of the box without the thought of any raisins! It really is worth it! I actually haven't done that in a while because it takes so long. How about Wheat Chex and then add bananas, thats my next fav!

Some of our favorites HANDS DOWN are Life cereal, cinnamon Life, Multigrain cheerios (so yummy!), Vanilla frosted mini wheats, cinnamon toast crunch, wheat chex, and I always like a bowl of Almond honey bunches of oats every once in a while. Hope this helps!

You'll have to update and tell us all what you ended up trying and liking!

I tried cinnamon life for awhile, but it gets soggy so fast! Yummy though.

two reasons: they are a classic and they are the cheapest!

good luck

another quicj & tasty breakfast solution is to make muffins to have on hand - i make them healthy with oats and wheat flour - sweetened with honey - my dear husband loves them

I love the Frosted Mini Wheats- Vanilla Cream- YUMMM! Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds, and Smart Start, the original one. Those are my favs, oh and Lucky Charms!

Our cookies are already gone too :)
As for cereal, I am not a big fan, but I do love Special K with strawberries, Oh's (they are a little sweet though), Multi Grain Cheerio's. Do you like yogurt and granola? I like that a lot too.

I love you and your cookies because we are so the same!!!

I love cold cereal and could probably eat it for every meal (in fact I did when Brian was away and I swear that is how I lost baby weight). I have to disagree with a few fellow readers - Honey Bunches of Oats (always cheap and good) is better Honey Roasted than the Almond kind. I have been loving Oh's lately. They are super crunchy and Emery loves to snack on them. I agree with you on the Raisin Bran Crunch (and the other kind) too sweet. Honey Nut Chex is pretty good every once in a while as well as wheat chex. I love the Special K yogurt and berries. And if you like banana nut bread the Banana Nut Crunch is delish. I could go on forever - Good luck.

I love cold cereal. I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch. It's my fave. A little pricey but it really fills you up. It doesn't get soggy while you are getting up to clean up spills and refill spippyys. Fruit always helps add variety to regular cereal like cherrios or chex. Dried or fresh fruit. Oatmeal is quicker than you think. I have a some really good oatmeal recipes.I think my comment is getting long enough so I'll email you them if you like. Oh and I like to do some yogurt with fresh fruit or frozen blueberries and cereal for a change too. Food, that's the thing to get me talkin'.

I second the Kashi ceral, but my absolute favorite is Quaker Oatmeal Squares. Sometimes Danny has to make a run at 10:30 at night because I have to have them then! So good!

MMMMM....COOKIES...GOOD!
(in cookie monster voice)

I live on Fiber One Caramel Delight, I'll give ya a baggie of it to try! They are especially good if fresh strawberries are added! I also like Multigrain Cheerios. I used to eat Frosted mini wheats, I really like the Post brand the best. Kelloggs Organic frosted mini wheats are good too.

Quaker Corn Bran. Weird sounding, but they are these crunch little squares that are sweet, but relatively healthy!

I am the same way with cookies. My favorit kind of cereal is one that I found at costco. It is called ASPIRE IMMUNE SUPPORT. I know sounds too healthy right? but really good. It has whole grain flakes with cranberry-orange flavored clusters and real strawberries in it. Super yummy! Give it a try if you can. I don't like my cereal too sweet it is too yucky sweet so this is just the right balance I think

Em you are hysterical. I love that you have no self control with the cookies! That just makes me love you more.

Ok for cereal I don't know. It is kind of a crapshoot sometimes. I like honey bunches of oats lately. Good luck!

Since I visited Melanie and ate with them, I have been on a cracklin Oat bran kick. Delicious! It has lots of fiber and is really yummy. I didn't realize there was so much to choose from, we have been eating cheerios for years. I'm going to branch out a little after this. Dad eats cheerios with dry oatmean and peaches almost every day.

I wish we ate cold cereal for dinner, think how easy that would be.

I love how you write a post about cereal and you still get 20 comments! What a lot of advice!

It doesn't matter if cookies touch.....they still taste the same. My last pan of a recipe always touch because I am tired of baking them so I just shove the rest on. I ate a hot breakfast of sausge or bacon, fried eggs, grits and either biscuits or toast everyday growing up because my parents are that southern. And that is why everyone in my family is fat too! But, I don't do that for myself so when I have to eat cereal I love OH's and actually craklin oat bran looks like dog food but it's good. The Kashi Go Lean Crunch is pretty bad .....don't believe the people that said it was good.

believe it or not, my fav is captain crunch w/crunchberries. but it's not like i ever buy that... toooo sugary.

aaron likes vanilla-almond granola and the kids like kix. all the chex cereals are good too. or you could buy some frozen waffles too- that's a great anytime snack.

Cereal is okay for me.....but I LOVE oatmeal w/half a banana. I know you asked for cereal, but, seriously, sometimes I wouldn't want to get out of bed, and thinking that was about to eat that, helped me get up. It's easy, cheap, healthy, and warm.....yum. I don't like the flavored kind (too sugary), and the old-fashioned are too cardboard like, but the quick oats.....MMmmmmm, 2 minutes til heaven, and I stay full a lot longer than when I eat cereal. Sheesh, i may be too crzy about this stuff

Honey Bunches of Oats is great. If I had cookie dough in my fridge, it'd be gone within 2 days- half eaten raw, and half eaten baked! I don't blame you for stuffing them all on that little one!

I knew I could count on you guys...man, nothing like a food post to get people to comment! I'm for sure going to try Oh's, Special K yogurt and strawberries, and whatever yumminess Mandy was talking about from Costco.

Thanks guys!

Brynne, Aaron and Cade said...

all my suggestions and you're not even going to try any of them??? Even with all those "honey bunches of oats with almonds" supporters??? jeez, why do i even bother?

:)

Kim said...

I'm with Brynne. Honey Bunches of Oats-with or without almonds is good. You need to try it Emily!

Love the cookie picture. You and I are such kindred spirits.

Come back to Boise soon, okay?! We have a big yard for Easton to play in too.

Cereal... I like yogurt cheerios (strawberry) but rarely buy them because they are rarely on sale. I also like the strawberry frosted miniwheats. Of course I love sugar cereal but don't buy it because I would eat it all in a day.

Now I am hungry. Hey, you never told me they have Winco in Boise!! I am so happy to be in a Winco city that I almost hugged the cashier. Of course the shopping trips here aren't as half as interesting as the Winco trips in Eugene.

Oh my goodness! Emily, you are BY FAR the most popular blogger of anyone I know! Every post gets AT LEAST 20 comments. It's insane. You are loved!! :)

Anyway. I LOVE Crispex. It's by far one of my favs. I also like the Post frosted mini wheats (better than Kellogg's), Smart Start (not sure which one), Chex, Cranberry Almond Crunch and Oatmeal Crisp. They used to have like a honey nut crunch - same line as the Raisin Bran Crunch, but not as sweet as the Carmel one.
Hope that helps. I want to hear how the taste-testing goes!!

30 comments?? Are you popular or what?!! wish i had some advice but we rarely eat cereal. maybe head over to trader joes and see what they have to mix it up a bit.

What's with everybody and their healthy cereal? Cereal is such a weakness of mine. I eat Lucky Charms and Fruity Pebbles every morning. Aren't I setting such a good example for my kids?

That is so funny about teh cookies- that is so something I woudl do. hahah. Cereal: I hate it. goodluck.

AMY AND MIKEY said...

Oh- but when i do eat ceral, are you ready for this? I have 2 seperate bowls, one for the milk and one for the cereal! I know I'm a freak! Because I eat so slow that my cereal gets all soggy and nasty, Mike makes fun of me everytime- but I dont' care, soggy cereal is nasty.

Margaret said...

I love cereal so I am happy to share...

Do you have a Trader Joes nearby? You need to try "Maple Pecan Clusters" or "Vanilla Clusters". Also try "Shredded Spoonfuls", "Super Nutty Toffee Clusters", "Shredded Oats" that you can find there.

At a normal store, I like "Multibran Chex" and "Corn Chex". And the normal "Honey Nut Cheerios".

I'd love to hear what you decided you liked and didn't like!
