Pain

I am feeling some serious pain right now. For 3 reasons:

1. Sunburn. It recently became pool weather here so we have been swimming a few times. I'm always good about putting sunscreen on my face, shoulders, back, chest...all the places on my body that burn because the sun is very attracted to my pale skin. I guess I never got into the habit of putting it on my legs. I don't know if the sun affects me differently here or what...maybe it's hotter or more intense, I don't know. Basically my shins and thighs are a nice shade of pink right now.

2. Volleyball. Finally we got a church volleyball league going and last night was our first practice. It's always hard to get back into the groove when you haven't played in a long time. And my arms and muscles weren't very used to movement other than picking up a child, typing or using a remote. So after returning serves from this person and this person, my arms are pretty much useless today.

3. Basketball. I finally made it to basketball. My friend has been trying to get me to go for a long time, but since I don't have DVR, I base my life around when my shows are on, and b-ball is at the same time as Lost. Well last night, since I was already out for volleyball, I figured I may as well go to basketball too. BIG mistake. In order to get a decent workout, these girls play full court, and by the second time down I was out of air, seriously wheezing and wishing I was dead. It was so pathetic and embarrassing. I had a great time playing and realized how much I miss it, but I knew I would be hating life in the morning.

Sure enough, after a rough night's sleep because I couldn't sleep on my stomach because of my sunburned legs, and everything hurting from my shoulders to my toes (seriously, even my toes hurt, that's not just an expression.) I felt like I had been hit by a train. BUT, in a weird way it feels kinda good. Maybe because I finally got a work out.

* Please remember that pain is all relative. My good friend just had a baby, and now has a possible broken or bruised rib. She is probably in 10 times more pain than I am, AND she hasn't even complained about it. I should just suck it up.

Darn! Sunburns really are no fun. I never put sunscreen on my legs either. I guess I'm always hoping that my legs will actually get tan or something. :o)

I think it's great that you got out to play volleyball and basketball! I was thinking about your typical exercise routine and how similar it sounded to mine. And in defense of all other TV lovers, the remote CAN give you a decent workout if the batteries are low. You spend much more time waving your arm around than a remote with fresh batteries. :o)

All jokes aside, I really admire you. I would love to be more active. I just haven't found anything yet that I enjoy. I never was an athletic person like you. :o)

Sunburns hurt. And then to add volleyball and basketball---you have got to be exhausted:) So how is it like being the wife of a laywer? I can't waite for Jonathan to be finished with school. Miss ya:)

I think it's so cool that you are picking up all of your athletics again. I wish I did something like that...a workout that is a game/fun/hard all at the same time.

You and your family are so cute.

Sunburns are the worst. I am jealous that you got to play volleyball and basketball. I can't wait to play with you guys.
And if you were here last night you would have heard the complaining :)

What's the point of a blog if you can't complain?

Thank you for giving me another reason to stay away from exercising.

Now if I can only figure out how to be as skinny as you without working out...

Christi: I told everyone you would be there next week, so don't worry, you'll get to play.

Ilene: The only reason I am skinner than you is because you're pregnant!

i hear ya sister!!!!! I've been back to working out again... finally- and i'm sore sore sore!!! holy moly it's super embarassing, but i know what you mean- at the same time it's so great!! My goal is 4 miles tomorrow, wish me luck! I'm so glad you're playing sports. that is the best way to work out for me because it's fun at the same time!

I love to hear you complain because I complain all the time and it is nice to not be the only one. And good for you for being so sporty. My butt is sore from sitting on it all night watching TV - not as cool as you. And I have to agree being sore kind of hurts in a good way.

I'm with Ilene. Pain is just another reason to stay away from exercise. (My main reason being I'm too uncoordinated.) But at the same time, I kind of love the feeling of sore muscles. It's a physical sign I did something more than just sit on the couch. I haven't had any sore muscles in years.

I hope your sunburn goes away and leaves ya a sweet tan!

whoa!!! All fun things! Swimming OUTSIDE where there is even the possibility of getting some sun, although I'm not jealous of your burn. Ever since living in hawaii and seeing the sun damage I have now, sunscreen is a must ALL OVER MY BODY at all times when outside. Bummer about your poor legs! Aloe vera should help, right?

Volleyball...I know how much you LOVE v-ball so way to go getting out there! And I'll pray for your muscles to condition to it faster than usual. And basketball?
A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

It's a good pain though right? Expect for the burn, it's all good!

I totally feel your pain, but it's gotten easier after three weeks. I didn't think it would, but it has a little. My toes hurt really bad last night too. I hope I don't lose my toe nail again. I need some new shoes I think! Anyways, I hope you're feeling better.

Sorry about the sunburn, but way to get back into the v-ball and b-ball. I WISH we had some church volleyball here. I'll stick to the kickboxing, uphill stroller walks and weight-lifting for the time being.
So wait - Christi might have a broken rib?!?! What happened? And she's supposed to play volleyball already next week?! Sheesh!

I'm sorry you are sunburned! ouch!

Ok that sounds so fun that you are playing basketball and volleyball! Can I join the basketball fun? Is it just a group of girls playing for fun or is it a ward team? Anyway I want to play!

Love ya!

Way to go Em! Such good fun and exercise at the same time. Brynne is right, Aloe vera is great for sunburn. Hope you feel better soon.
