6 Years

We went on our first ever family vacation (besides going to visit family) a week ago, to Oceanside, CA. It was a blast! We wanted nothing more than to just relax on the beach and play with Easton, so that's just what we did. Steve starts his new job tomorrow, and after enduring what he did for the past year, he really deserved a break. Plus, today we have been married for 6 years, so it counted as our anniversary trip too.

Like I said, we mostly played on the beach, but we also went to San Diego to see the zoo. We really liked it, it's just so huge there's no way we could see everything. Easton LOVED the elephants and the monkeys. It was fun.

Before we left I was doing a lot of research on Oceanside, trying to find things to do or places to eat. I thought I hit the jackpot when I found this place. For those of you who don't know this, my maiden name is Jolley, so I was so excited when I found this place and knew I wanted to take Steve there. I kept it a secret and said I had a surprise for him. So, we get to the harbor that first night, and thought we found an awesome parking spot (it's hard to find spots near the beach), so we get out and start looking at the shops and head towards what we thought was the restaurant. After we didn't see it for awhile, we asked the information lady where it was, and she told us it was on the other side of the harbor, and "quite a walk". It was nice outside, we had the stroller, and didn't want to lose our awesome parking spot...so we walked...and walked...and walked. It was forever, and once we got there, we realized it was it's own place...a little separate from the harbor and had it's own parking lot with about 25 spots open. Red flags started going up when we walk in and see about 3 other customers, age range 70-80. We ordered what we thought sounded like yummy food, but really, it was just gross. I think Steve was trying to be nice because he didn't want to hurt my feelings, since I built up the surprise so much. But I couldn't even deny it. It was just not good. So, then we had to walk all the way back to our "awesome" parking spot. "Quite a ways..." She could have also spared us the walk and told us how gross it was. We ended up getting ice cream and playing at the beach for awhile, so the evening wasn't a total downer.

It has been a great 6 years. I love being married to this guy! He's the best dad and husband, and he works so hard. Thanks Steve, I love you! Happy Anniversary!

Which one did you go to? My sister lives in Dana Point and we've gone down and eaten at the Dana Harbor Jolley Rogers but this was several years ago and the food was actually really good. So glad you had a fun trip. I love family but it's so nice to do something different besides visiting your hometown!

We also rarely take vacations where we don't visit family. Like you, we love to visit our family, but it is SO nice to be on your own schedule, have no agenda and do whatever you want instead of just trying to please the group. Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations! I remember when you guys were dating and would come over to our apartment- beautiful Pineview- and order two medium pizzas- one for each of you. What memories. I would have come and celebrated your anniversary with you- how about number seven?????

Oh how I miss Cali - we went to San Diego the first summer we were married and I loved it, if we ever move back to CA I wouldn't mind it there. I love you little family picture in this post, you guys are too, too cute!!!

Dang Anjie...I knew someone else would probably have eaten there and liked it. We went to the Oceanside one. Maybe just what we ordered was bad, who knows?

Again I am jealous that you were somewhere where you got to wear a hoodie :)
Anyway congrats of 6 years. I am glad that you guys got a good vacation. That is so cool that was name of the restaurant! Sucks that the food was gross though.

Happy Anniversary. Six years sounds so long. And Happy Family Vacation. Sounds like you had fun, minus the walk and senior citizen food. Sounds like the restaurant has some misleading advertising having Jolley in the name. You'd think you'd be in for a treat! At least you didn't let it ruin the trip. Glad you had fun!

Wow, how time flies. I remember when you got married - just 6 years ago? Seems like you've been a part of Steve's life forever, and that is a good thing. Congrats on CELEBRATING your anniversary. Too often we let the day slip by with just a card or brief mention. I'm glad that you were able to spend precious time together.

Good luck Steve with the new job. Hope that it is awesome and fulfilling. Also, Happy Birthday a little late!!!!! (I remember when you were born, but don't tell anybody I'm that old.)

Too bad the food was gross, I always find joy in ice cream though. Glad that you had a great time at the ocean and zoo. I enjoy CA, but could never live there.

Have a great day! Love you all.....countdown 'til Abi comes home. 4 days to go!!!

ah.....southern cali. beaches are the best. I am jealous. Bummer about the restaurant though! Next time you go down there you should go to Ruby's on the pier in Huntington. That is a fun restaurant with great food, really good shakes, and an awesome ocean view!

Hey they say if you can make it 7 years, you'll make it for life. So only one more year to go! Too bad the food wasn't fab, but hey it's the memory that you made that counts... right?

Beach pictures are the best! Sorry that restaurant turned out to be so crummy - such a good idea in theory!! I don't know how good of spirits I would've been in after such a long walk and 'gross' dinner - but ice cream usually helps make things better!
Happy Anniversary!

Such cute photos!! That is the best Zoo ever, I'm glad you got to go there and most expecially glad that Steve got a week off. Hopefully this new job will be great for him, he deserves it after last year.

See you soon!

Sounds like the Information Lady really didn't do her job very well. If I were the Information Lady I would at least take my position a little more seriously.

Sounds like a fun trip! Hot pictures!

Ummm, Happy Anniversary. But, also... I can't get over how big and how cute Easton looks with his big kid hair cut and bleach-blonde hair.

Love that elephant! And the beach! Oh my goodness. How sad that the restaurant bombed. The website is so misleading. It makes it look awesome. Happy Anniversary! I forgot about that while I was talking to you on the phone. Oops.

Oh, that Easton is so adorable.

You and Steve look good too.

What, you didn't want to spend a family vacation in Nampa?

By the way, I drove through Weiser from a family reunion and I am so glad you guys didn't go there. That was quite the little town.
